 |
| This comes down to one simple statement:
the design of the website should never
take top priority over the functionality
of the website. You absolutely want
the design to look professional, but
if people can't find what they need
quickly and easily, they will be gone.
There are several factors that E-nomad
focuses on to provide the best possible
mix of form and function: responsible
use of Flash design and PDF files,
and intuitive site organization and
navigation. |
| |
| Flash Design |
| Fabulous, high tech all-Flash designs
are beautiful to look at - the first
time you visit the site. The second
time you visit the site you can't
wait to hit the Skip Intro button
because you just don't have the time.
Sites created entirely in Flash can
be fun and they certainly have their
place in certain industries that are
already entertainment-oriented. They
are just not as appropriate for a
nonprofit website because the irritation
factor is too risky when you are catering
to potential donors, volunteers and
consumers. The trend today is moderation
in everything. If Flash is used at
all, it is in small amounts as a portion
of the main page. On most professional
sites, like Adobe.com
- the manufacturer of Flash, you will
see a Flash element cycling briefly
and stopping, usually with no sound
added. Constant movement and sound
on a page can be seriously distracting
to a visitor trying to find information.

| PDF Files |
| PDF files are another
potential irritant for your site visitors
so we want to keep them to a bare
minimum and warn people when they
are about to open one up. PDF files
are a great way to send large documents
to others in a format that everyone
can read. But on a website, you really
want that information as content in
within your web pages not as a separate
document. It is appropriate to use
a pdf file for larger documents that
are not as crucial to your website
or for forms that require signatures
and/or "printer-friendly"
versions of online forms. Many nonprofits
leave their Annual Report in a pdf
format but pull out important statistics
into the main web content. |
| |
| Organization and Navigation |
| One of our specialties is website
organization. Designing a web site
involves space planning, analyzing
who will be visiting the site, what
they are likely to need or want first
and the most logical way to get them
from one piece of information to another
without getting lost or confused.

| We do not sell Content Management
Systems, rent or lease software or
work with templates. All of our work
is original so that you are guaranteed
a unique nonprofit web design that
is yours alone. |
